The singer and composer Neil Diamond was born in 1941 in the New York borough of Brooklyn. For his 16th birthday he gets a guitar and a little later he starts working as a songwriter. In 1964 Neil opened his own small office on Broadway and began to market his compositions himself. In 1966, Neil Diamond released his first solo record, The Feel of Neil Diamond, with producer Bert Berns. The first singles released land in the top ten of the US charts.

In 1978 the singer met his old schoolmate Barbra Streisand again. The duet "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" recorded with her became another number 1 hit in the USA. In 2000, the Songwriters Hall of Fame honored Neil Diamond with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifetime achievement. The multiple Grammy and Golden Globe winner has sold more than 125 million records in his career. His songs "Sweet Caroline", "Cracklin' Rose" and "Sung Sung Blue" are now classics. He also wrote big hits for other artists such as “I'm a Believer” for the Monkees or “Red, Red Wine” for the band UB40.
